Not all of us have the privilege of spending the sweltering heat behind closed doors and air conditioning. But all of us know the feeling of wiping the sweat off our foreheads. With the climate crisis worsening hot weather conditions in India, we face more threats of heatstroke. For the daily wage workers, corporate employees, students, and all those who do not have the option to escape to cooler conditions, the IILM volunteers at the Chanakyapuri Project Educate Center (PEC) organized a chabeel distribution drive.
Chabeel is a traditional Punjabi drink made with a mix of rose syrup, water, sugar, and milk. It is hydrating and cooling, and thus, one of the best beverages to beat the summer heat. It is a tradition not simply for harsh weather conditions, but one rooted in generosity, empathy, care, and service of others. A small action of making a cooling drink and distributing it free of cost holds importance now more than ever. To add a positive to a rather negative situation. So, the volunteers set up a table with a large tub of chabeel to distribute to all passers-by.
This distribution drive was not about honoring a long-standing tradition; it was about what it means. It was about doing our bit to help those around us, even if it means serving them a cooling beverage. As long as you do something – Anything Will Do.
